Edibles in Saudi markets - how halal are they!
Recently my neighbour who's employed in Saudi Arabia visited me. Something in the sweet bag which he brought attracted my attention. I deliberately searched for the ingredients and the manufacturer. Not to my surprise there was a Chinese marshmallow pack with beef gelatin mentioned on it as I expected. The pack had everything in English and it was not certified as halal anywhere. Without verifying how can you trust the products from China where they eat almost everything except the humans.
This is only an instance. We have the habit of eating anything from KSA with our eyes closed thinking it's halal. Another common product consumed in Saudi is the chicken. Many of the American multi national fast food outlets in KSA serve chicken. To my knowledge chicken is imported into Saudi from Brazil as well. We are told the below answers when inquired in some food outlets:
- Certifying halal is the work of the government and why should we bother.
- This company is opened with the partnership of such and such princes.
- A person is sent to monitor the slaughtering process of the countries from which Saudi imports.
Has anybody verified this with any of the Saudi authorities. Saudi super markets and shops are flooded with thousands of sweets and edibles imported from other countries. Have you ever thought of the ingredients in them. I don't know about other middle east countries and it would be advisable to take care there as well.
Next time please think before you eat.
Well, working in Saudi, i knw for sure there is a Food Authority who ensures the whole process of ensuring that products that are imported here is Halal.
ReplyDeleteHere is the simple fact, 95% of the items in Saudi doesn't carry the Tag of "Halal", i am sure you know this, its not imprinted even in the local meat products therefore it is safe to say that items that are brought from KSA are actually halal since it is indeed responsibility of the government in K.S.A. Although it doesnt automatically qualifies that everything that comes from here is halal, but it is surely has halal culture implemented as unlike in other countries, in KSA it is forbidden to sell anything Haram. Hope this will clarify.
Thanks for your comment bro.
